long-distance-battle

We were flooded with offers to switch long distance companies after the breakup of the Bell System.

The split came after the U.S. Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against AT&T. At the time AT&T was the sole provider of telephone service throughout most of the United States. This led to the breakup of the biggest corporation in American history.

On January 1, 1984, the Bell System was split into seven “Baby Bells”. Offers poured in by mail, television and telephone from Sprint, MCI and others.
